ABMRS Exams

The American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS) have set exams for testing MRI safety knowledge. The MR Safety Officer (MRSO), MR Safety Tech (MRST), MR Medical Director (MRMD) and the MR Safety Expert (MRSE) exams are not attached to, or connected to, any course.

The International ABMRS exams are now available in Prometric testing centres.

The process to register for an exam starts from the ABMRS website then, once registration is complete, candidates will be sent to the Prometric site to select a location, date and time of the exam.

Please check the ABMRS website for the latest information. The exam syllabus is available from the Examination Content page on the ABMRS website.

MRSE candidates may also wish to investigate the IPEM MRSE Certificate of Competence.

ABMRS becoming the IBMRS

The American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS) will become the International Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (IBMRS). This better reflects the reach of the organisation and the exams.

Founded by Dr Emanuel Kanal, the ABMRS has become a global leader in MR safety certification with their exams continuing to expand worldwide. The addition of the recent MR Safety Technologist (MRST) certification alongside MRSO, MRSE and MRMD continues to press home the need to strengthen best practices by testing MRI safety knowledge.

What this means moving forward - for currently certified professionals - no impact, as your existing certification(s) remain valid until the expiration date (10 years). Any future re-sit/certification will be under the IBMRS.
